How our review scores actually work

August 23, 2026 · Marek Kowalczyk

People ask what a 4.2 means versus a 4.6, so here's the honest answer: it's a summary of a conversation, not a formula. We weigh fun above everything, then how well the game fits a phone — controls, session length, battery. Presentation matters, but a gorgeous game that isn't enjoyable still scores low. We deliberately don't have a 'perfect ten' myth. Our scale mostly lives between 3.8 and 4.9 because we don't cover games we'd rate lower — we just skip them. Mostly, treat the number as a nudge and read the words. The paragraphs are where we actually tell you if a game is for you.
